In a spring brake cylinder (3), which can be combined with a service brake cylinder (1) to form a so-called combination cylinder, the spring-loaded piston (21) is coupled by means of a hydraulic reversing device to the push rod (7) acting on the brake mechanism, such that a movement of the spring-loaded piston (21) in one direction initiates a movement of the push rod (7) in the opposite direction. The hydraulic reversing device comprises a chamber (37) which is formed by two annular chambers (41, 43), is filled with a hydraulic medium and in which the volumes of the two annular chambers can be displaced. One end of each of the two annular chambers (41, 43) is formed by a seal connected to the spring-loaded piston (21) and the push rod (7) respectively, such that movements of the spring-loaded piston (21) initiate a change in volume in one (41) of the two annular chambers while, in corresponding fashion, movements of the push rod (7) cause changes in volume in the other annular chamber (43). An axial movement initiated when the pre-loaded spring (23) of the spring brake cylinder (3) is relieved accordingly causes a reduction in volume in one (41) of the annular chambers and, as a consequence, a displacement of the hydraulic medium out of this annular chamber into the other annular chamber (43), with the result that the increase in the volume of the other annular chamber (43) which arises in this process ...
