The fear of perforation has hitherto hindered use of a catheter for irrigating the bowel of stoma patients. The improvement of the function for this, even for the removal of thickened faeces, is achieved by an irrigation device comprising an irrigation tube which possesses a blunt nozzle head at the front combined with nozzles which are set backwards for advance, this irrigation tube being insertable through the wide borehole of the known cone used for closure of the stoma, into the bowel lumen for comprehensive and yet gentle irrigation of sections of the bowel in the region of the stoma and not indirectly as is common at present, if an additional external termination is provided on the irrigation tube for the irrigation liquid, in that from the outer part of the cone a membranous seal is present like a cuff around the irrigation tube and has its sealing ring at the front behind the nozzle head on the irrigation tube. The stoma patient can then himself additionally move the irrigation tube, which is acted upon by a pressure pump, with advance in the bowel region for the purpose of irrigation and can discharge even thick faecal masses into the toilet via the borehole in the cone and the connected drainage tube. |
