PURPOSE:To obtain a photographic film image small in silver stains by proc essing a photosensitive material with a water-soluble alkaline soln. specified in pH and contg. 3 specified components to obtain a negative image high in contrast by using a hydrazine derivative. CONSTITUTION:An exposed surface latent image type silver halide photographic sensitive material is developed in the presence of one of hydrazines to form a negative image high in contrast by using a water-soluble alkaline developing soln. of 10.5-12.3 in pH contg. a dihydroxybenzene type developing agent, a sulfite preservative of >=0.3mol/l, and a compd. represented by the formula shown on the right, R2 being 3-6C alkyl and R3, R4 being 1-10C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, in a concn. of 0.01-0.30mol/l. The use of said amino compd. of the formula remarkably promotes enhancement of contrast with a small amt., and causes no silver stains because of its weak action as the solvent of silver halide, and accordingly, the developing soln. of such a compsn. is adapted, especially to rapid treatment using an automatic developing machine for the photomechanical process of graphic arts and the like.
