PURPOSE:To provide a cardiotonic agent exhibiting the pharmacological activity of cardiotonic glycoside without causing digitalis poisoning and effective to congestive cardiac insufficiency, by adding a certain kind of pyrimidine compound to a cardiotonic glycoside. CONSTITUTION:The objective cardiotonic agent composition contains (A) the pyrimidine compound of formula (R<1> and R<2> are H or lower alkyl; R<3> is aryl which may have lower alkoxy as substituent group; R<4> is aryl which may have hydroxyl or lower alkyl as substituent group) or its salt and (B) a cardiotonic glycoside. The desired remedying effect can be attained without causing digitalis poisoning by the combined use of the pyrimidine compound of formula and the cardiotonic glycoside. Preferable example of the compound of formula is 3,4-dihydro-6-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1,3-dimethyl-4-(2,4,6-trimethylphe nylimino)-2-(1H)-pyrimidinone, etc. |
