A suspension for a sprung steering axle of a cross-country tractor vehicle is described. The axle beam of the steering axle is supported by its two centrally arranged axle ends running in the vehicle longitudinal direction so that it can oscillate on a link sprung in relation to the vehicle, which link is formed from two support elements running transversely to the vehicle longitudinal direction and accommodating the axle beam between them. In order to increase the ride comfort of a vehicle provided with an axle suspension of this type, the support elements are pivoted with the axle ends on the vehicle frame at a distance from the joints and essentially connected to one another by a cross member in this area only. The transverse link thus formed has a relatively low mass, has a very low unsprung mass and has only a low overall height, which enables the overall centre of gravity of the vehicle to be kept low. <IMAGE>
