SLIDING NOZZLE FOR A MOLTEN STEEL RECEIVING VESSEL

The steel pouring spout assembly with adjustable cross-sectional flow area is arranged in the bottom of a casting ladle. It comprises an insert of porous refractory material placed from above in a bore of a stone block in the bottom, an inert gas supply permitting this gas to enter the bore of the insert via its pores, and a non-porous fire-resistant horizontal plate fixed below the insert with an opening aligned with the bore. A non-porous fire-resistant plate with opening is horizontally slidable below the plate by an actuator and carries a non-porous fire-resistant lower spout member with bore aligned with the opening. The improvement is that the insert consists of an upper and a lower portion sepd. by a (largely) horizontal eg. steel partition whilst two gas supply tubes connect to separate annular chambers around the respective portions.
