In the production of this fuel, in which a naphtha fraction originating from coal and obtained by coal liquefaction is divided up by distillation, expensive isolation of the phenolic compounds of the coal oil is avoided by treating the phenol-containing stream with dimethyl carbonate as a methylating agent under methylating conditions, but without addition of a catalyst. |
