Title compds. I [Ro=H, lower alkyl; R1, R2, R3=H, halo, lower alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy!, useful as herbicides against Echinocholoa crus- galli Beaux., Cyperus difformis L., and Cyperus serotinus Rottb., were described. Thus, a mixt. contg. 50 ml benzene, 2.02g triethyl amine, and 2,21g m-ethylaniline was treated with 3.33g alpha, alpha- dimethylphenyl acetyl chloride to give 3.95g alpha, alpha-dimethyl phenyl acetate-m-ethyl anilide.
