PURPOSE:To enable mass production of the titled compound by shortening the time necessary for its synthesis, by polycondensing a phenol with an alde hyde or a ketone and esterifying the condensate by continuously adding thereto o-quinonediazidosulfonyl chloride. CONSTITUTION:1pt. by mol of phenol is reacted with 0.7-1.0pt. by mol of aldehyde or ketone at a reaction temperature of -5-120 deg.C for 3-48hr in the presence of an acid catalyst such as hydrochloric acid. After the MW has reached the desired value (e.g., a Mn of 400-7,200 and a Mw of 500-15,000), the polycondensation reaction is stopped by neutralization with an aqueous alkali solution (an acid where an alkali catalyst is used). After the reaction solution from which the formed resin is not isolated is directly concentrated by heating in a vacuum, the undried polycondensate resin together and o- quinonediazidosulfonic chloride are dissolved in a reaction solvent such as dioxane and esterified by heating at 40-50 deg.C with agitation and dropping an alkali such as Na2CO3 to an equivalence point. The precipitated ester produce is filtered and dried to obtain the titled compound in yield >=90%. |
