PURPOSE:To improve air permeability of a coating, by using a polyvinyl butyral as a binder to be incorporated in a pigment. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl butyral is incorporated as a binder in a pigment such as precipitated calcium carbonate, silica or titanium dioxide. A coating formed by applying the paint compsn. on a substrate exhibits an excellent air permeability even when the proportion of the pigment is low, which eliminates the need for the use of a large amount of a pigment for improving the air permeability. Conventionally, when a paint compsn. is used in a gravure printing, the use of a high-quality paper for gravure printing has been required, because the paint compsn. should be applied thinly due to its poor air permeability. On the other hand, the use of the paint compsn. of the present invention ensures a sufficient air permeability even in the case of thick application, which does not spoil the appearance even when the paint compsn. is applied on an inexpensive paper having a poor surface smoothness.
