SURFACE TREATMENT OF METAL

PURPOSE:To obtain a surface treated product having optional chromium deposition by bringing a metallic material into contact with a chromate treating liquid consisting of a halocarbon solvent contg. a chromic acid component and alcohol solubilizing agent then setting and washing said material. CONSTITUTION:The metallic material is brought into contact with the chromate treating liquid consisting of the chromic acid component, halocarbon solvent and alcohol solubilizing agent and contg. a stabilizing agent and reaction accelerator, if necessary. The metallic material is then rested for 30sec in an atmosphere contg. none of the components constituting the above-mentioned treating liquid and is thereby set. The metallic material is thereafter brought into contact with the liquid or vapor of the soln. consisting substantially of only the halocarbon and alcohol solubilizing agent and is thereby washed. The washed material is dried. The above-mentioned setting is more adequately executed in flowing air at an ordinary temp. The above-mentioned halocarbon is preferably chlorinated hydrocarbon, chlorinated hydrocarbon fluoride, etc. and the solubilizing agent is preferably secondary or ternary alcohol of 3-20C. The chromate treated product controlled to the optional chrome deposition and having good appearance is obtd. by the above-mentioned method.
