PURPOSE:To obtain a solid state X-ray laser which emits a coherent X-ray by composing a resonator of a specific intercalation compound. CONSTITUTION:Compound molecular layers 6 are inserted between the atom layers 5 of the single crystal of a layer crystal material such as graphite. The light is hardly absorbed by a carbon layer and the carbon layer can be regarded as a transparent layer. If the compound is composed of an element such as Si, Ge or Cl, the light generated when the excitation of the electrons of the element is relieved resonates in a resonator composed of the intercalation compound to generate a standing wave so that laser function can be recognized. If a halogen compound of a IV group element is employed as the compound composing the molecular layer 6, an acceptor type intercalation compound can be obtained and an extremely stable photoresonator can be provided. For instance, if SOR of 6.69Angstrom wavelength is directed from an SOR apparatus 8 to an intercalation compound 10 composed of single crystal graphite layers and SiCl4 layers inserted between them, a coherent X-ray 4 of 6.6Angstrom wavelength can be emitted. |
