<p>The anchor, for stabilising a ladder while in use, comprises a hollow member having at least a wedge-shaped front portion (2) provided with a closable orifice (21) for filing the member with ballast or discharging ballast therefrom, the member having a ground engaging surface (5) and a top surface (11), the top surface (11) having therein at least one recess (17) for receiving one or each of the longitudinal struts of a ladder and providing a foot receiving surface (11) between the recess or recesses (17) and the base of the member.
