PURPOSE:To prevent double reading of the same place on a medium and to shorten the time for reading by accumulating data read out in the waiting time until an objective block is detected temporarily in a memory. CONSTITUTION:On receiving a request for reading and a number of a sector to be read out from an external device 6, a controlling section 5 judges whether the contents of the sector exist in a temporary storing memory 3 or not, and when exist, reads out data for 1 sector from the memory 3. When not exist, the controlling section 5 moves a reading head, and reads the data through a reading amplifier 2, and detects the leading part of the sector. In the case where the detected sector number does not coincide with the sector number to be read, the contents of the sector are accumulated in the memory 3, and the leading part of the next sector is detected, and thereafter, above-mentioned process is repeated. When the sector numbers coincide, data read out from the amplifier 2 are transferred to the external device 6.
