PURPOSE:To enable the continuous detection of a particle size by detecting the liquid level of ink, by detecting the electrostatic capacity between the electrode member arranging in an insulating tank, which has a metal member of which the inner wall coated with resin film, and the metal member. CONSTITUTION:A liquid level detecting container 14 is formed of an insulating substance such as glass or a resin and a pipe 12 comprising a metal member having a resin film 11 applied thereto inside the container 14 and an electrode member 15 exposed to a liquid 13 such as ink constitute a sensor part. Because the liquid 13 in the container 4 is a conductor, the electrostatic capacity of the resin film at the part immersed in the liquid, that is, the electrostatic capacity between the metal member 12 and the electrode member 15 is measured by a measuring apparatus 20 to make it possible to detect a liquid level. This liquid level may be the change in a water head in the detection of the particle size of ink or the residual amount of the ink in a tank and the hourly changing particle size or liquid level of the ink can be detected.
