PURPOSE:To maintain the specified spacing between a roll and guide plate having the curved surface along the circumferential and guide plate having the curved surface along the circumferential direction of the roll and to improve the cooling effect of the roll by forming said guide plate so as to have the thickness increasing toward the central part. CONSTITUTION:The position of the cooling water guide plate 20 with respect to the work roll can be adjusted by adjusting a bolt 26 and the curvature of the plate 20 is changed to meet the diameter of the work roll by pushing and pulling a cooling water block 18 by screws 28, 30 by which the optimum maintenance of a cooling water passage 22 is made possible. The thickness (h) of the cooling water guide plate is increased with the top end part 20a as a reference point, by which the radius of the bending curvature of the plate 20 is made approximately constant. The maintenance of approximately the specified spacing between the work roll and the cooling water guide plate and the ideal cooling are thus made possible.
