PURPOSE:To contrive a reduction in the size of a printer and enhancement of vibration attenuation characteristics, by a system wherein a paper-feeding stepping motor can be excited by both 2-phase excitation and 1-2 phase excitation. CONSTITUTION:When an ordinary paper feeding command is sent from a host device (a) to a printer part 1, a 2-phase exciting circuit 3 in the printer part 1 is started for performing an ordinary paper-feeding operation according to judgment by a controlling part 2, thereby rotating the stepping motor 5 by ordinary paper-feeding steps. When a minimum-unit paper-feeding command is sent from the host device (a) to the printer part 1, a 1-2 phase exciting circuit 4 is started for a minimum-unit paper-feeding operation according to judgment by the controlling part 2, thereby rotating the motor 5 by steps each of which is 1/2 of the ordinary paper-feeding step.
