PURPOSE:To reduce initial wear of a grinding surface of a grinding wheel and improve working efficiency by decreasing or increasing a dressing speed as a dressing stroke length increases when a dresser applied to the grinding surface of the grinding wheel in rotation is moved forward and rearward. CONSTITUTION:In a first forward and rearward process, when a rearward dressing speed V1r is decreased to one-half of a forward dressing speed V1f, the number of crests traversed by a dresser 2 in the rearward process is twice as many as the case in which the rearward dressing speed is equal to the forward dressing speed. Thus, crests made in the forward process is shaved off more fine to decrease the height of the crests as a whole. However, a level L of roots is always kept constant because the amount of wear of the dresser 2 is ignorably small. Further, in a second forward and rearward movement of the dresser 2 when a forward dressing speed V2f is decreased to the dressing speed V1r and a rearward dressing speed V2r is decreased to the dressing speed V2f, a shaves surface is so finished that the height of the crests thereon is decreased as a whole. As a result, an initial wear is greatly decreased, a frequency for dressing a grinding wheel is decreased, and a working efficiency is increased although a cutting quality is a little decreased. |
