PURPOSE:To select cartridges whose number of sheets is different, by outputting the number of sheet pulses, based on outputs of a cartridge number detecting circuit and a page pulse detecting circuit. CONSTITUTION:A pulse output from a cartridge number detecting circuit 40 is supplied to one input of AND2, and one input of AND3 through an inverter IN5, respectively. On the other hand, an output pulse from a page pulse detecting circuit 41 is supplied to the other input of the AND2, and the other input of the AND3 through an FF3, respectively. When the number of sheets of a cartridge is equal, a page pulse corresponding to the number of sheets is outputted to OUT3 from the AND2. Also, when the number of sheets of the cartridge is different, a page pulse corresponding to the number of sheets is outputted to the OUT3 from the AND3.
