PURPOSE:To enable reduction of the generation of noise from an engine through prevention of production of vibration of a piston, by a method wherein the center of the spherical surface of the inner peripheral wall of a dome is positioned closer to the ignition plug side than the top surface of a piston in the vicinity of a top dead center. CONSTITUTION:In a combustion chamber 8, the inner peripheral wall of a dome 9 is formed in a smooth spherical shape. A central point A of a spherical surface 13 is positioned closer to the ignition plug 12 side than the spherical surface of a piston in the vicinity of a top dead center, and located on axis X1-X1 of the ignition plug 12. This displaces a collecting spot of reflecting waves produced as a result of a part of pressure wave, produced by combustion, colliding with the inner peripheral wall of the dome 9, in relation to the top surface of the piston. Further, since the opening of the dome 9, positioned facing the plug, is slightly narrowed, the dome is prevented from exposure to the pressure of the reflecting waves, and besides, a range, in which a pressure is exerted on the interior of the dome 9, is decreased, and thereby impact exerted is reduced to prevent production of vibration of the piston itself.
