Process for the preparation of dialkyl acetals of alkanals or oxyalkanals by reaction of an alkyl or arylalkyl halide, an alkanol and a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, under pressure, in the presence of a carbonylated derivative of cobalt and an inorganic base insoluble in the reaction mixture. This process is particularly well suited to the preparation of lower dialkyl acetals of phenylacetaldehyde used in perfumery. |
