PURPOSE:To perform recording and reproducing with a high reliability and a high density in a high speed by buffering the shock which is caused when the direction of movement of a recording medium and its holding base is inverted in the high-speed reciprocation. CONSTITUTION:Through both of a card holding base 2 and counter weight 3 are fixed to linear parts of a belt 6, they are so arranged that they are moved linearly in directions opposite to each other. A driving pulley 4 is inverted periodically, and the card holding base 2 is moved back and force linearly within the range of the linear part of the belt 6. Since the counter weight 3 is attached, the shock generated in the direction of an arrow A in the figure is canceled on the principle, and oscillation or the like is held down within a prescribed range, and normal recording and reproducing are maintained.
