PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized, lightweight thermal copying machine of simple structure by providing a means which winds an original to be copied and a copying material around a roller by a specific angle and applies a tensile force to the member wound around the roller outside. CONSTITUTION:A supply side roller 6 is equipped with a brake which applies a specific back tension to a mask sheet 1. A take-up roll 7 is driven by a driv ing device and the mask sheet 1 is sent from the supply side roll 6 to the take-up roll 7 while applied with the specific tension. The copying material 2 is inserted into between the mask sheet 1 and roller 5 and then the mask sheet 1 and copying material 2 are sent in contact with each other. At this time, the contact part is irradiated with light from an exposure light source 3 and light transmitted through the mask sheet is absorbed by thermal ink; and an ink layer generates heat and the thermal ink fuses or sublimates and is transferred to the copying material. Thus, the means which applies the tension to the mask sheet itself is provided to eliminate the need for a device which applies pressure externally.
