PURPOSE:To increase the distance between a host computer and a reader/writer for integrated circuit IC cards by applying the series transmission only to transmit data to an IC card from the host computer. CONSTITUTION:When a command is sent to an IC card 13 from a host computer 11, a processor 20 decides a start block character 17 to confirm that the command is issued to the card 13. Then the received data are transferred as they are to the 2nd 1-byte buffer 24. The data stored in the buffer 24 are sent to the 2nd shift register 25 and converted again into the serial data. These serial data are sent to the card 13. In this case, a processor 4 transmits and receives data successively by making use of the time difference (about 1ms) produced when the 1st shift register 18 converts the data sent from the computer 11 into the serial data.
