PURPOSE:To prevent the top end of a paper from drooping when feeding the paper by line feeding and prevent the paper from jamming, by a system wherein before the top end of a printed paper reaches a position beneath a guide plate, paper feeding by line feeding is conducted after centering a printing head each time. CONSTITUTION:The period in which the printing head 2 is moved to the center of the width of the paper 10 prior to each paper feeding by line feeding is the period from the moment the top end of the paper is located at the position of the printing head 2 to the moment to top end reaches the position beneath the guide plate. The paper is sucked in, the first printing line position is counted by, for example, a register A, printing is conducted, and the content of the register A checked each time a line feeding amount for the next printing is added to the content. When the checked value is smaller than a count X corresponding to the distance form the head position to the guide plate position, line feeding is conducted after moving the head to the center of the paper width (namely, centering the head) each time. This operation is repeated for each printing and line feeding, and when the top end of the paper reaches the guide plate position, the content of the register A is larger than the count X, so that centering is not necessary, and only line feeding and printing are conducted.
