The present invention relates to a horizontal reciprocating pedal mechanism with a curved rail and continuous change of speed. It consists of an upper curved rail 1, of a lower curved rail 2, and of an upright which serves to fasten the slide-type speed-change support 4. The rail may be fastened to a support by virtue of a fastening at each end 5 and 6. A pedal actuated horizontally and alternately by the user's foot is fastened to the support of the guide rolls 7, which provide its reciprocating displacement along the rail. A chain 8 driven by the pedal 16 is wound around a ratchet wheel 9 and a guide pulley 10 with a return at the front of the support of the guide rolls 7. The tension in the chain 8 is obtained with the aid of an elastic belt 11. The reciprocating movement of the chain 8 is transmitted to the spindle of a ratchet wheel 9. A continuous change of speed is obtained by the sliding of the ratchet wheel on its support 4 by virtue of a manual control lever. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for the fields of the cycle, boat (pedalo), car and muscular flight. In the case of the cycle, the man is sitting on a seat with a headrest, his feet alternately pushing a pedal 16 which causes the guide rolls 15 to roll along the curved rail, which also serves as a frame for the cycle. <IMAGE>
