PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in properties of an electrode, by sealing the end of the electrode with a fluorine resin film under an atmosphere of inert gas while cooling the effective portion of the electrode with the gas. CONSTITUTION:Inert gas such as nitrogen gas is caused to flow in spaces among the frames 11, 12 of a jig and a hotpress 13 through the inert gas inlet holes 14, 16 and water outlet holes 15, 17 of the frames so that a fluorine resin film 10 is fuse-bonded on the end of an electrode plate while an effective electrode portion including a catalyst layer 4 is cooled under the atmosphere of the inert gas flowing in the spaces. Thus, the rise in the temperature of the effective electrode portion is suppressed and sealing work is performed under the inert gas. This results in preventing the sintering of a catalyst, the oxidation of a catalyst carrier or the enlargement of each fluorine particle of the effective electrode portion. |
