Apparatus comprising one or more bushings rotating on a spindle carried by a chassis, which supports neither a fixed pin nor a support insulator 1, but completely embraces the bushing(s) when the isolator is "open". The chassis forms a plug-in unit 3 and is removable as such. The hand-operated or motorised member can be carried by the plug-in unit 4 or installed fixedly 5. In either case, the plug-in unit entrains, in its movement inside the carrier structure, a coverplate which blocks off the opening which would remain gaping on withdrawing the plug-in unit 6. In the "open" position the bushing(s) is/are inserted in series in a circuit for monitoring electrical continuity, ensuring the positive remote indication of the position 7. Each bushing includes a saturable current transformer which makes it possible to monitor the absence of load with a view to the operations 8. <IMAGE>
