PURPOSE:A carcinostatic adjuvant, consisting of an extract of decoction of ephedra herb and useful for cisplatin. CONSTITUTION:A carcinostatic adjuvant obtained by adding an extraction solvent, e.g. water or water-soluble organic solvent, in an amount of 5-25 times, preferably 8-20 times, based on ephedral herb decoction, to the ephedral herb decoction (3.0-5.0pts.wt. ephedral herb, 4.0-5.0pts.wt. apricot kernel, 2.0-4.0pts.wt. cinnamon bark and 1.0-2.0pts.wt. licorice), extracting the ephedral herb decoction at 60-100 deg.C for 30min-2hr while heating, filtering the above- mentioned extract, concentrating the filtrate by a means of vacuum concentration, etc., and drying the concentrate by a drying means and capable of enhancing the carcinostatic action of cisplatin and reducing side effect. The cisplatin is a carcinostatic agent effective for testicular tumor, prostatic carcinoma, bladder cancer, ovarian cancer and renal pelvis and urethrophyma, but has side effect, e.g. renopathy, etc. The above-mentioned side effect is reduced by the above-mentioned adjuvant and, therefore, the treatment of cancer by the cisplatin becomes more effective. |
