A process is claimed for spot welding in which a fixing square (I) made from steel flat is joined to a square tube (3) by means of a joint or assembly (2) using spot welds applied by resistance contact points. The fixing square (1) has a boss (4) in the form of a bowl of which the flat bottom is supported level on the square tube (3). Between the fixing square (1) and the square tube (3) is interposed an intermediate airtight layer (5) that is hollowed out in the region of the boss (4), this hollow being pref. formed by a punch. The interpolated layer (5) is made from a material impermeable to water and heat inflates on the application of heat.
