NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [X is O or S; Y is CO2Z, SO3Z or PO3Z (Z is H, alkali metal or NH4); l is an integer 1-10; m and n are integers 1-4; p and q are integers 4-21]. EXAMPLE:1-[ O-( 1', 3'-Dihexadecyloxyprop-2-yl )]glycolyl-10- carboxymethyl 1,10 diaza-4,7,13,16-tetraoxacyclooctadecane. USE:Ion permeable membranes, temperature control switches, etc., by supporting on a polymer. PREPARATION:For example, a compound expressed by formula II, e.g. 10- carboxymethyl-1,10-diaza-4,7,13,16-tetraoxa-18-crown-6, is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (W is halogen), e.g. O-(1,3-dihexadecyloxyprop-2- yl)glycolyl chloride, preferably in an organic solvent, e.g. dimethylformamide (DMF), in the presence of a hydrogen halide capturing agent in an inert gas atmosphere.
