NEW MATERIAL:An alkali metallic hydroxide taking complex of acetylene alcohol wherein a host compound, an acetylene alcohol compound shown by the formula I [R<1> is alkyl or aryl; R<2> is H, alkyl, aryl, or R<1> and R<2> may form group shown by the formula II, formula III, or formula IV (X is H, halogen, or alkyl); R<3> is H, group shown by the formula V (R<4> and R<5> are R<1> and R<2>) or formula VI (R<6> and R<7> are R<1> and R<2>)] takes an alkali metallic hydroxide. EXAMPLE:A complex wherein caustic soda is taken in a host compound shown by the formula VII. USE:The titled complex can be directly used in the production of high-purity caustic soda and is extremely useful for rationalizing the whole processes of its production. PREPARATION:An acetylene alcohol compound shown by the formula I is used as a host compound, is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of an alkali metallic hydroxide to give crystal wherein the host compound takes the alkali metal hydroxide. Further the prepared complex is treated with a proper organic solvent so that it is decomposed to given an alkali metallic hydroxide as a solid substance.
