The invention relates to the remote detection of a nuclear explosion with an electromagnetic pulse effect. A monitoring device 1 detects, at any time, a signal of presence or absence V, T, P respectively of a normal supply to the network 3, of a normal supply to the telephone network 5 and of a radio frequency carrier wave. The signals are sent to a command unit 13 which, in the case of simultaneous absence of the three signals orders a light signal 20 to be switched off. Switching off of this signal triggers a warning device 2 protected in a Faraday cage 21. The invention applies in particular to civil defence. <IMAGE>
