Rotary piston machine comprising two rotary support discs independent from each other and provided with pistons, wherein respectively alternatingly a piston of the first disc and a piston of the second disc project into the same cavity with revolution symmetry of a housing co-axially arranged with respect to the longitudinal axis. In order to provide a rotary piston machine of the simplest design and having a space accessible to the working medium relatively large with respect to the total volume of the housing of the pistons, the working space receiving the pistons extends from the primary shafts up to the housing wall, and the pistons and/or the support discs control the passage ports provided in the housing walls for the admission and exhaust of the working media. An internal combustion engine of this type may be similarly used with a two- or four-stroke cycle and may be operated by a controlled ignition or self-ignition.
