The invention relates to a programming stencil for laying out endless forms, especially for computer output printed lines and data acquisition lines with division for one or more characters. It is known for programming rulers to be used, having scales with the required gradations printed on the edges, to satisfy the requirements regarding printing accuracy in the laying out of endless forms which are written on by computer printers. If the gradations are to be transferred to the paper to be laid out, a line is to be drawn on the said paper at the level of a measuring line. In this process, inaccuracies occur during transfer and, furthermore, this process is time-consuming when long printed lines are marked. The object of the invention is to transfer the markings to the paper to be laid out more accurately and more rapidly. This object is achieved according to the invention by cutting small tooth-like marking notches into the edges of the stencil. If the user marks the edge of the stencil with a pencil, the line generated at the point of a marking notch is marked by a small bulge.
