The invention relates to a sheet-metal casing for centrifugal pumps, a box girder being arranged in the region between the intake-side connection and the intake-side casing wall. This ring-shaped box girder ensures that the pipeline forces acting on the intake connection are transferred to the pump casing, without a deformation in the vicinity of the intake connection resulting in the impeller butting against the wall. The rigidity thus achieved in the inlet region permits a resilient design of the casing in the region of the discharge chamber, which enables trouble-free pump operation in spite of pipeline forces acting on the casing.
