PURPOSE:To obtain an uniform cutting quality for various cutting directions by forming with switching freely a circularly polarized light or linearly polarized light by the rotation of a circularly polarized light converting optical system for the linearly polarized light beam outputted from a laser oscillator. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam outputted from the laser oscillator 1 of linearly polarized light type is made incident on a circularly polarized light converting optical system 3 as a linearly polarized light beam 2. In case of transmitting by the mirror 5 of the optical system 3 of 1/4 wavelength the laser beam to be transmitted with the reflection by the mirrors 5-6 of the optical system 3, the circularly polarized light converter 9 of the optical system 3 consisting of these each mirror 5-8, etc. is made to turn around the beam 2 axial center which is made incident on this mirror 5. The work 4 on a work stand is therefore subjected to a cutting by converting said laser beam into the circularly polarized light beam 13. The beam 2 oscillated from the oscillator 1 can be made to be in parallel to the cutting direction B of the work 4 ad the polarized light direction A of the laser beam and the cutting of the work 4 can be performed based on the parallel movement of the beam 2 and work 4. |
