PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform the transfer of high image quality without receiving the effect of the surface of transfer paper, by containing a specific amount of an olefinic hot melt adhesive having a specific softening point and specific viscosity in the heat-meltable ink layer of a thermal transfer medium wherein the heat-meltable ink layer is provided on a polyester film. CONSTITUTION:The heat-meltable ink layer 2 formed on a base material 21 comprising a polyester film with a thickness of about 3-12mum is formed of a colorant, wax and an olefinic hot melt adhesive. The hot melt adhesive has a softening point of 80-120 deg.C and a viscosity of 1-3 Pa.s at 180 deg.C and is contained in an amount of 20-60wt%. As mentioned above, by containing the olefinic hot melt adhesive in the ink of the ink layer as a binder other than wax, the ink itself has pressure-sensitive adhesive property and, because of this, even if a transfer paper inferior in surface smoothness is used, even the ink positioned in recessed parts is transferred to the transfer paper side by the ink contacted with the protruded parts on the surface of the transfer paper and the adhesiveness of ink becomes uniform. |
