PURPOSE:To prevent a roller track which appears on a transfer material from being formed from the beginning and to obtain images of good quality by charging the surface of an image carrier at least once electrostatically during the pre-run of the image carrier before image formation and then forming a toner film thereupon, and removing it by rubbing by an elastic cleaning roller. CONSTITUTION:Foreign matter such as remaining toner and paper powder left on the photoconductive layer on the surface of a photosensitive body 1 rotating as shown by an arrow in the last image forming process is removed by a cleaning device 8 and remaining charges are also erased by a pre-exposure lamp 9; and the photoconductive layer which becomes clean is charged electrostatically and uniformly by a primary charger 2 and irradiated with a light image 3 to form an electrostatic latent image. Toner is supplied to the latent image by a developing device 4 to form a toner image, which is transferred through the operation of a transfer charger 6 to the sheet type transfer material made principally of paper which is positioned in contact with or nearby the toner image after passing through a conveyance path 5. Then, the transfer material leaves the photosensitive body 1 through the operation of a separation charger 7 and is supplied to a fixation position through a conveyance path 10.
