A tyre production process is presented with a post-vulcanisation inflation process (PCI process) which is subdivided into two steps: a first step in which, for a short initial time, the tyre is placed on a narrow rim with a width less than the standard width, and a second step in which, directly after the end of the first time, the tyre is placed on a wide rim which is wider than the narrow rim and preferably wider than the standard rim. The first step prevents bearing and damage of the groove base and the second step facilitates the pulling of the finished tyre onto the rim.
