PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for setting of a waiting time by allowing a receiver to transit to a next control signal procedure immediately when it is informed to the receiver that a transmitter recognizes a message confirming signal MCF. CONSTITUTION:After a reception instruction signal is sent to a receiver, a code representing that the scanning line density set while an original is transmitted just before is the fine mode is sent to the receiver while being included in a digital instruction signal DCS and a non-standard equipment setting signal NSS. The receiver detects the signal and sets the scanning line density to the fine mode. Succeedingly, the transmitter sends a training check signal TCF to the receiver through an MODEM to confirm the training and whether or not the transmission speed is matched with the transmission line so as to set the MODEM speed. After the setting of the transmission speed, the receiver sends a reception preparation confirming signal CFR to the transmitter to inform that all the reception preparation is finished. Then the control procedure before picture transmission is finished and the picture at the fine mode is sent.
