摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce erroneous distance measuring due to a far and close competition object, which is apt to occur in a certain distance measuring visual field, to detect the focus with a high precision by detecting the focal length of an image pickup optical system and varying the taking-out range of the output signal of an image pickup means in accordance with this focal length. CONSTITUTION:The focal length is detected momentarily by a zoom position detecting means 27 including a detecting part and a microprocessor part which determines a distance measuring position on a basis of information of this detecting part, and information based on the size of the distance measuring visual field determined by this focal length is outputted to a PLA26. The PLA26 changes a control signal supplied to a gate 18 in accordance with this distance measuring visual field information. A zoom position, namely, the focal length is detected at the distance measuring start time, and a distance measuring region determined by this focal length to detect a direction, and a lens group 10 related to focusing is driven, and thereafter, high frequency components are extracted through steps of zoom position detection and distance measuring region selection.
