PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal panel having the sharp threshold value characteristics and to obtain good visibility in the stage of high time-divided driving by twisting liquid crystal molecules at 90 deg. angle and optimizing the adhering angle and DELTAn.d of polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:An upper substrate 2 having electrodes is positioned under the upper polarizing plate and a lower substrate 3 having electrodes is disposed to face said substrate in such a manner that a prescribed apace is provided therebetween by a spacer 4. A nematic liquid crystal compsn. 5 having positive dielectric anisotropy is filled into the space. The lower polarizing plate 6 is positioned under the substrate 3. A reflecting plate 7 is further placed under the plate 6 in the case of forming the liquid crystal panel into reflection type structure. The electrodes are formed on the opposed surfaces of the substrates 2, 3 and are subjected to the prescribed orientation treatment. The orientation treatment directions of the substrates 2, 3 are crossed at 90 deg. to cross the orientation of the compsn. 5 at 90 deg. angle. For example, the substrate 2 is subjected to the orientation treatment in an arrow 8 direction from below to above and the substrate 3 is subjected to the orientation treatment from the right to the left at 90 deg. open angle in the counterclockwise direction with respect to the arrow 8.
