METHOD FOR WELDING AND ASSEMBLING NARROW GAP MEMBER

PURPOSE:To maintain a narrow gap space with high accuracy and to assemble efficiently narrow gap members by packing preliminarily a deformation preventive material consisting of a water soluble material into the spaces to be formed as the gaps of the narrow gap members and assembling the members by welding then immersing the assembly in water to dissolve the deformation preventive member. CONSTITUTION:The water soluble deformation preventive material 6 is packed into the spaces partitioned by ribs 2 of a lower plate 1 and further through- grooves 7 are formed to the material 6. The groove of an upper plate 3 is welded and is united to the lower plate by weld zones 5, by which the narrow gap members are assembled. The shrinkage on welding in the height direction is prevented by the material 6 intervened between the members. The grooves 7 formed on both sides of the material 6 act as the spaces for forming penetration beads. The narrow gap members assembled by welding are immersed in the water, then the material 6 is dissolved or softened by crushing and is thereby easily removed.
