PURPOSE:To attain to enhance the efficiency of paper inserting operation, by detecting whether paper is present in a platen at the start time of paper feed and performing only the operation necessary for the insert of paper on the basis of the detection result. CONSTITUTION:IF.CPU253 outputs 'delivery command' and 'paper feed command' when received the response of 'paper presence' from MAIN CPU283 and performs the transfer to automatic setting command processing to insert paper. Next, if the response is 'paper absence', pre-initial command processing is performed. When a paper presence state was discriminated during pre-initial operation (paper feed preparing operation) setting a paper feed possible state through the resetting of the latch of ASF2, manual insert paper feed is judged to enter automatic setting operation as it is. If the paper presence state is not obtained even if pre-initial operation was finished after the paper feed operation of a predetermined amount, automatic paper feed is judged to perform the operation of paper feed from ASF2.
