PURPOSE:To obtain a drive device preventing an excessive load by stopping temporarily the drive means of a switching means when the absolute value of a load current or the absolute current flowing into the switching means which controls the absolute value of a load current exceeds a reference value. CONSTITUTION:The rotation of a motor 6 being a load is detected by a tacho- generator 7, compared with the command value of a command circuit 1 and applied to a speed loop control circuit 2. Its output is compared with the current detection value of the switching means controlling the load current fetched from an amplifier 13, and is applied to the drive means 45. The absolute value of a current detection value from the amplifier 13 is taken by an absolute value circuit 14, applied to an electronic thermal circuit 16 and a time limit block circuit 15 to drive a motor overheating alarm 18, a timer circuit 17, an excessive current alarm 19, and is inputted to an alarm processing circuit 21.
