PURPOSE:To remarkably reduce color beat in the scanning direction by ovrlapping in order the first, the second and the third birefringence transparent plates, a scanning direction and a separating direction of which are tilted by 45 degrees against the scanning direction and a counter-clockwise direction respectively. CONSTITUTION:At an optical filter 20, the first quartz plate 21 which sets a direction (arrow 21A) that is turned by 45 degrees in the clockwise direction against the scanning direction (X axis) at a solid state image pickup element 1 as the separating direction, the second quartz plate 22 which sets the same direction (arrow 22A) as the scanning direction as the separating direction and the third quartz plate 23 which sets the direction (arrow 23A) that is turned by 45 degrees in the counter clockwise direction against the X axis are overlapped in order. A unit flux of light 24 which is made incident on the optical filter 20 is made birefringence at the first quartz plate 21 and is separated to rays of light 251 and 252 and these rays of light are separated one after another at the second and the third quartz plates 22 and 23 and the unit flux of light 24 is separated to eight rays of light 251-258.
