PURPOSE:To prevent original setting operation from becoming complicated and an original from being miscopied and to improve the operation efficiency of a copying machine by providing a detecting means which detects the paper size of the original, a decision means which decides whether the paper size is suitable to a both-surface copying mode or not, and an intermediate tray rotating means which rotates an intermediate try horizontally by 180 deg. before the start of reverse-surface copying operation. CONSTITUTION:An original detection sensor 41 is arranged which detects the paper size and setting direction of the original placed on an original tray 4. A rotating device 43 is arranged below the intermediate tray 22. A copying form which is inverted in conveying direction through a switch-back conveyance path after its surface is copied then conveyed in a direction C through a both-surface copying conveyance path 34 is stacked between a bottom plate 22c and a paper feed roller 42 for an intermediate tray part. When the reverse surface is copied, and said paper feed roller 42 moves in a direction B prior to the rotation of a photosensitive drum 19 and the stacked form is pressed so as to contact a paper feed belt 24 for the intermediate tray part.
