PURPOSE:To make it possible to surely hold a small size thin material, by connoting permanent magnets disposed in a housing with magnetic pole pieces through a connector and the housing. CONSTITUTION:First and second magnetic pole pieces 26, 28 are insulated from each other by spacers 30 to form a surface plate 12 having the first and second magnetic pole pieces 26, 28. Further there is formed a sousing 14 having a frame section 44 on a bottom plate 42 which is parallel with the surface plate 12, the frame section 44 being connected with the first magnetic pole pieces 26 and insulated from the second magnetic pole pieces 28. Further, between the surface plate 12 and the bottom plate 42 there is disposed a connector 16 which is insulated from the first magnetic pole pieces 26 and is connected with the second magnetic pole pieces 28. First polarity irreversible permanent magnets 22a are disposed between the connector 16 and the bottom plate 42, and second polarity irreversible permanent magnets 22b are disposed between the connector 16 and the frame section 44. Further, polarity reversible permanent magnets 18 for energizing and deenergizing a working surface 32 in cooperation with the polarity irreversible permanent magnets 22a, 22b are disposed between the connector 16 and the housing. With this arrangement it is possible to make the pitches of the magnetic pole pieces 26, 28 smaller, and thereby it is possible to hold a small size thin magnetic material.
