PURPOSE:To shorten the handling time of plural optical disks by simple constitution by allowing a heat along a driving shaft while the head is moved away from a storage medium and allowing the head to access another optical disk. CONSTITUTION:The head 48 of a head arm assembly 31 swings on an optical disk 5 radially through the operation of a head arm assembly swinging part 32. When the head arm assembly 31 crosses the optical axis of an optical detecting means 79 and moves out of the optical disk 5, that is detected and a readout unit 30 moves up or down with an information retrieval signal from a control part and stops at a specific position; and then the head arm assembly 31 of this readout unit 30 moves on the optical disk 5 radially and the tip head 48 of the head arm 45 faces specific target information, which begins to be read. Consequently, plural optical disks are handled by the simple, small-sized constitution with a short wait time.
